Fire Doors
In some situations you will require fire doors to be fitted to certain rooms - this may be because the operations that occur inside pose a higher fire risk (e.g. kitchens) or maybe you only have one route of escape and so you need to protect that escape route from smoke and fire so that the occupants of the building have enough time to escape. (This is why we don't prop open fire doors!)
Whether or not you need fire doors will normally be decided by fire risk assessment, a risk assessment should also check any fire doors fitted, close correctly (using a closing device), are in good condition, are fitted with intumescent strips (or intumescent strips with smoke seals) and that they fit tightly enough into the frame to provide an adequate barrier to smoke and fire.
Woodside Construction can install fire doors to replace your existing doors and we can also arrange to have them painted for you.
Importance of correctly installed doors..!
Why is this important?
When installing a door, our carpenters will start by measuring the width at various positions up and down the door frame. This allows them to find if and where the door frame is bowed. Then, they can carefully shape and plane the new door to fit perfectly into position.
Many handymen and even inexperienced carpenters do not shape the door properly. This can leave unequal margins around the door. And the door may need to be replaced in order to make it fit.
How much does it cost to fit a door?
That really depends on how much the new door needs to be shaped to fit the old door frame. Whether it’s an internal or external door. And whether you need us to fit locks and handles.
Our team of carpenters work on a half hourly or day rate. Our team are highly skilled and experienced carpenters, which means they can shape and fit a door quickly and to a high standard.

TRADA Q-Mark fire door scheme
The woodworking association BM TRADA use a system called Q-Mark it uses coloured plugs inserted in the jamb of the door which indicates the type of fire door.
Q-Mark fire doors are clearly marked as such by small plastic plugs in the door leaf and/or frame, these include member details and scope of certification for verification purposes during specification, installation or at a later stage in their service life. They are only available to full members of the BM TRADA Q-Mark schemes.
